The evacuation order for downstream of the Pickering Creek Dam on Route 23 was lifted about nine hours ago.
Original post: Residents and businesses downstream of Pickering Creek Dam on Valley Forge Rd (Rt 23) near Phoenixville are being advised to evacuate IMMEDIATELY due to an imminent dam failure. Act now to protect life and property. Floodwaters will impact both sides of the Schuylkill River.
Areas affected include: PA Route 23, the Pickering Creek water treatment plant, a PECO substation near the dam, and the surrounding area in Schuylkill Township, Chester County; and, the Schuylkill River Trail and Port Providence section in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County.
Flood flows are expected to be contained by the Conrail bridge embankment north of Port Providence.
Chester County residents needing shelter should report to Phoenixville High School, located at 1200 Gay St.
Montgomery County residents needing shelter should report to the rec center at 499 Hopwood Ave.
