About the Board
Schuylkill Township is a Township of the second class as defined in the Pennsylvania Second Class Township Code and enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Township is governed by a five member elected Board of Supervisors. Supervisors are elected at-large for six-year staggered terms. The Board has both executive and legislative powers.
Under the Second Class Township Code the Board is charged with the general governance of the township to secure the safety, health and welfare of its citizens. The Board accomplishes this through the enactment of ordinances (laws) which govern the various tasks and activities of the township. However, the Board is restricted in areas that it can control by both the Township Code and the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The Board appoints a Township Manager who is responsible to the Board to implement the ordinances it passes, manage the day-to-day administration of the township, and to develop and manage the annual budget adopted by the Board.
Board Meetings
Regular Business Meetings: 7:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month.
Workshop Meetings: 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month, as required
Reorganization Meeting: The first Monday of January
All meetings are open to the public. If you wish to be on the formal agenda to discuss an issue with the Board, please submit the Board of Supervisors’ Agenda Request Form to the Township Manager no later than 12:00 noon on the Wednesday preceding any given Board meeting. Members of the public may also bring an issue to the Board’s attention during the public participation section of the meeting, however, the public participation time is a time for the Board to listen; it is not a question and answer period. Questions of an informational kind may be answered if the answer is readily available.
